Riverina Field Days Griffith NSW
The Riverina Field Days evolved from a field day which had previously been held at Yanco from 1988 to 2006 and was owned and operated by local Griffith media interests WIN Television & Radio 2RG, Griffith.
In July 2006 these companies decided not to be involved and a decision was made to try and find a business or company who would be prepared to take the event to Griffith in order to make it viable once more. Since the drought hit in 2000 it became increasingly evident that it was no longer viable at Yanco.
The event is now held at the Griffith Showgrounds under the auspice of the Coro Club. Initially the arrangement was a joint venture between the Coro Club and the Griffith Showground Trust but subsequent situations made a joint venture impossible and the Coro Club eventually took over complete control of the event and now pays a generous fee to the Trust for the use of the grounds.
There is a great deal of infrastructure in place at the Griffith Showgrounds such as permanent toilet facilities, sealed roads in many areas as well as seating and trees for shade. There is a permanent bar facility as well as three buildings able to provide exhibitors with undercover areas, thus saving them marquee hire.
With a new venue, new owners, new sponsors and the organizer based in Griffith a new name was deemed appropriate and the Riverina Field Days was born. We did however keep the same dates as we’d had at Yanco—that being the second Friday and Saturday in May.
There is plenty of room at the Griffith Showground to accommodate exhibitors. The main arena is set out in rows and there are also small (6 × 6 metre) sites on the inside perimeter. There are also other areas with access to power.
From experience we have found that it is preferable for most exhibitors not to have someone selling clothing next to an exhibitor with farm machinery. This has worked well in the past and there is no reason not to continue with this method of site allocation.
Moving the event to an area which a much larger population base has seen a marked increase in crowd numbers.
Whilst both media companies will have nothing to do with the organisation of theRiverina Field Days from now on, they have pledged their support through advertising.
The Riverina Field Days is the only field day being held in the M.I.A.
We welcome you to become an exhibitor and/or visit the Riverina Field Days.
