Westfield Augers Australia offers a product line that suits local growers

Offering the greatest combination of lengths and capacity options than any other auger brand has grown Westfield Augers Australia into the market leader

Westfield Augers (Australia) has been supplying growers with the most efficient augers since 1983 and as a result now offer one of the biggest models on the market the MKX 160-125 swing away auger that weighs in close to 8.5 tonnes with the capacity to shift 630 tonnes of grain an hour

Growers in the grain industry have come to realise the benefits of dealing with one supplier that can meet every need for shifting their valuable grain product efficiently to achieve the best price.

The Westfield line of grain auger and conveyor belts has packaged its extensive product range into a one-stop turnkey solution for local growers through Westfield Augers (Australia) since 1983. While the manufacturing company started in Canada over 70 years ago in 1951.

When the Westfield grain handling line became readily available here in 1983, growers were quick to take up these models as they were able to handle grain in bulk and at quicker speeds than offered previously.

With the inevitable result, these product lines have reached a point today, where Westfield augers and conveyor belts are represented on the majority of large-scale grain-growing farms across the country.

Testament to the brand’s reliability and design, many of the original augers sold over 40 years ago are still running strong.

Westfield Augers (Australia) keeps a large parts supply for all augers sold and prides itself on prompt delivery of required parts to clients.

Roland Schmelzer has built Westfield Augers (Australia) into the market leader by offering more combinations of lengths, diameters and drive styles in its range of augers and conveyor belts than any other auger brand

And while the Westfield product lines of grain auger and conveyor belts are some of the best built in the world, it’s been the continued development of the line in our local market that has had the biggest impact.

Well-known farm industry identity Roland Schmelzer is still the managing director of Westfield Augers (Australia), the company he established in 1983 to distribute the Westfield product range here.

And it is because of his extensive knowledge he has been able to apply design upgrades and increases in the size of augers to reflect the requirements of our local grain industry.

As a result, Roland’s company Westfield Augers (Australia) is the leading supplier of purpose designed and built augers specifically for our local market.

Each and every auger Roland supplies is designed from the ground up, as the augers get bigger, their components get heavier and stronger to ensure maximum performance and durability.

With the options including a combination of lengths, diameters and drive styles, Westfield Augers (Australia) range of augers and conveyor belts give local growers more lengths and capacity options than any other auger brand.

This is all backed up by a national fully established dealer network, with the backing of over 40 years of working with the local growers and fully stocked with any spare parts that are required for all Westfield-built augers.

Westfield Augers (Australia) has built its reputation over the past 40 years on being able to supply every type of grain-growing operation in Australia. From the most specialised to the biggest.

As a result, the biggest model in the current line-up is the MKX 160-125 swing away auger that weighs in close to 8.5 tonnes and has the capacity to shift 630 tonnes of grain an hour.

This model can be seen working at some of the largest commercial grain processing and storage operations along with the largest-scale grain growing farms. The MKX 160-125 is claimed as the biggest capacity grain auger in the world.

Growers are drawn to models in the Westfield MKX² auger range as they offer bulk handling with diameters up to 405mm (16-inch) and lengths up to 38m (125ft) able to shift 630 tonnes of grain an hour

Westfield MKX² Swingaway Augers

Engineered to meet the challenges of the increased performances expected by local growers to match the recent three record-breaking seasons, these Westfield MKX² tractor-pto powered augers offer a wider range of options than previously.

Westfield’s flagship MKX² auger range is designed for efficient delivery of grain into bins or trucks and growers have the choice of a three-model Series, the MKX² 10, MKX² 13 and MKX² 16 with diameters of 254mm (10-inch), 330mm (13-inch) and 405mm (16-inch) respectively.

The MKX² 10 range offers fully raised heights of 6.7 to 16.8m (21.10 to 55ft), while the MKX² 13 range has a fully extended height from 12.3 to 21m (40.3 to 68.11ft).

With the MKX² 16 offering a fully extended height from 14.4 to 26.8m (47.3 to 87.10ft), with grain moving capacities of up to 630 tonnes per hour.

Auger length options in Westfield MKX² 10, 13 and 16 Series models include A-frames from 16.1 to 38.1m (53 to 125ft).

Westfield Augers (Australia) has been the first point of contact for large-scale growers for storing on-farm for the past 40 years

Large-scale growing operations are drawn to the latest release MKX² range as they offer 75 performance enhancements in their design with ease of use and serviceability at the top of the list.

Easy-to-access service points allow for quick inspection and maintenance of hopper u-joints, chains, and bearings. Larger access and clean-out doors on the boot provide easy entry to internal gearboxes and bearings.

Including an A-frame undercarriage and steel truss support to eliminate bowing and maintain a rigid alignment during heavy load tasks.

Now with the addition of a redesigned open-end discharge spout it delivers a faster, more efficient flow that has reduced power requirements by up to 20%.

Along with the addition of tapered bearings for increased lifespan and hanger bearings that support the lower flight. These bearings reduce noise and enhance the assembly process.

The biggest capacity MKX² 160-125 can move up to 630 tonnes per hour, making it suitable for the largest-scale farms where multiple headers are in operation at the one time.

With the trend to more on-farm storage capacity Westfield Augers (Australia) introduced the MKX 160-125 swing away auger that can work comfortably shifting grain capacity up to 630 tonnes an hour along a 38m (125ft) length

Westfield Augers (Australia) says while some sizes of these larger capacity augers are currently available for the upcoming winter crop harvest, along with good supplies of truck-loading augers are also in stock.

But it’s suggested that it would be ideal to check now to see if the model you require is available or will need to be ordered.

All Westfield MKX² augers come with a wide range of options including a hydraulic hopper winch, X-Tend hopper, X-Over hopper, electric and hydraulic power swings, 1000 rpm speed reducer, LED work lights, steerable axle, right angle drive kits, and transport lights.

For more than seven decades Westfield has led the auger industry by improving the efficiency and bottom line for growers.

Westfield’s portable grain handling equipment offers an industry leading limited two-year warranty and is manufactured with quality materials and functions that provide added performance.

Westfield belt conveyors

Many growers have begun switching to conveyors as a popular option for higher capacity but gentle handling of commodities such as chickpeas and beans.

Westfield belt conveyors are becoming more popular for large-scale operations as they are engineered for the gentle handling of delicate seeds and some types of commodities that can be susceptible to impact damage by conventional grain handling systems.

In addition, Westfield belt conveyors are built for high-capacity grain handling with heavy-duty rubber belting that is rated for up to 3,000 hours.

And there is the added benefit for busy operations that belt conveyors only require a fraction of the power of screw augers, allowing larger tractors to be freed-up for other jobs.

Westfield WCX Series

Westfield’s WCX Series belt conveyors are the most popular in the range and offer many options for growers to be able to incorporate them into their grain handling program with belt widths ranging from 38.1cm (15-inches) to 59.6cm (23.5-inches), and tube lengths from 14.9m (49-ft) up to 36.5m (120ft).

With the most popular tube diameters being 25.4cm (10-in), 35.5cm (14-in) and 40.6cm (16-in).

Westfield WCX³ 1549

The most recent model release in Westfield’s belt conveyor range is the WCX³ 1549, specially designed to handle anything a farm can throw at it.

Ideal for handling canola and fertiliser it includes a redesigned S-Drive, that has increased belt take-up and a wider hopper. In addition, it has quick access guarding, a redesigned spout and an ergonomic command centre that includes an electronic throttle.

These WCX³ 1549 also include an IBEX Mover Kit that offers better traction, a drop and go wheel system, a more powerful motor and built-in braking system.

These WCX³ 1549 is highly effective running a 38cm (15-in) belt with a 25.4cm (10-in) tube along a 14.9m (49-ft) length with the advantage this one conveyor can work with all commodities, reducing the need to have multiple portable handling solutions.

The straight-down spout design eliminates the need for an additional down spout, and this allows the conveyor to stay at a lower working angle. Grain handling capacity of 245 tonnes/hour can be achieved.

Westfield WCX² 1515 LP

Westfield’s WCX² 1515 LP belt conveyor has been engineered to provide maximum speed from a low-profile transfer.

Key changes were introduced with this model including a narrower hopper clearance at the transition that allows access to tighter spaces. There is also an upgraded hopper cloth frame that is stronger and easier to replace than previous models.

A removable skid plate under the intake hopper gives good protection from belt damage and stops debris from getting onto the belt and into the truck or airseeder.

The enhanced intake design and transition increases flow. While there is also an angle indicator for positioning and S-drive tension indicators for easy adjustment.

The WCX² 1515 runs a 38cm (15-in) belt with a 25.4cm (10-in) tube in a choice of 11.8, 13.4 and 14.9m (39, 44 and 49-ft) lengths.

Westfield brand has a coveted local history of 41 years

Westfield Augers (Australia) Pty Ltd began its local operation in 1983 and has now marked its 41st year of distributing the auger range from AGI Westfield that has been manufactured in Canada for over 70 years.

Back in 1983 Roland (Rolly) Schmelzer recognised the potential for Westfield augers in the Australian market because of their capacity to move grain efficiently and quickly.

Roland approached the Plett family who owned Westfield Industries Ltd and manufactured the range in Canada, to commence an Australian distribution arm. The Pletts’ recognised Roland’s openness, foresight and integrity and so began a journey that placed the very latest auger design in the hands of local growers.

The first delivery loads of Westfield augers to Queensland consisted of the largest pto-powered models and they were an instant hit with local growers.

The TR100 auger was one of the early versions of the very popular swing-away design and many of these models are still in use today.

Well know farm industry identity Roland Schmelzer has been the managing
director of Westfield Augers (Australia) for 41 years

With a close working relationship and over 40 trips to the Westfield factory and 41 years of design feedback, Roland Schmelzer has a very deep understanding of the grain auger and conveying industry and continues to lead the helm of his company today.

A proud Queensland based family company with its roots deep in historic developments for grain handling equipment.

In May 2000, Ag Growth International (AGI) acquired Westfield Industries Ltd and Roland continued his successful distribution of Westfield product lines within Australia.

Industry leader

Although the augers and conveyors are now branded AGI, Westfield, Westfield Augers (Australia) Pty Ltd continue to market products in all Australian states. Roland is recognised as a serious industry participant in the bulk grain handling business, selling and servicing all sizes of belt conveyors and grain augers across a broad market.

In Rolly’s lifetime association with Westfield, he has seen many people come and go in the industry and sell many different brands and said, “It is easy to sell something but to get the client to come back a second and third time requires knowledge, respect and integrity.

Why they come back

“We have many former clients’ grandchildren dealing with us,” Rolly adds.

“Because they know we are a local and solid organisation who is prepared to stand behind the product and have millions of dollars in parts and inventory to support our clients when they really need it,” Rolly concluded.

Rolly and the Westfield staff all want to thank our farming families who have loyally supported us for over 40 years, purchasing Westfields from our smallest pencil auger to our largest 32.5m (125-ft) augers and conveyors.
