South Australia aims to establish a regional quarantine facility ahead of citrus harvest

To secure an agricultural workforce for the lucrative citrus harvest, SA is setting up a speciality regional quarantine facility

With citrus production worth more than $277 million to the SA economy, the state government is setting up a speciality regional quarantine facility at Paringa.

The facility will cater specifically for workers arriving under the Commonwealth Seasonal Worker Programme and Pacific Labour Scheme, with new arrivals expected every 14 days over the next three months.

South Australia has also opted into the National Cabinet-endorsed pre-departure quarantine pilot that will see workers from nations like Vanuatu and Fiji complete quarantine in their home countries before departure for Australia.
