Farmsafe Australia releases National Farm Safety Education Fund Strategy

The release of a new farm safety strategy brings with it a call for greater collaborative industry action to promote better practices

Farmsafe Australia’s National Farm Safety Education Fund Strategy has the target to reduce farming-related injuries and deaths by 2030.

With increased production levels the agriculture sector is expected to reach a record $66 billion in industry production this year, but with that goal comes a high-risk environment for farm workers.

The Farmsafe report says getting better safety outcomes on-farm will require leadership at all levels, from farmers on the ground through to peak bodies and government.

Farmers, the report says, need to shift their attitudes and improve awareness of workplace risks.

The strategy identifies five key areas for impact: leadership and culture, the next generation of farmers, physical and psychological well-being, training and continued learning, and evidence and incentivisation.
