On-farm grain storage is the key to many growing operations gaining the highest prices from current record harvests by holding grain for longer

Grain growers will soon start harvesting one of the biggest crops ever planted down, at an anticipated record 23.83 million hectares, and that is expected to result in a record to near record harvest for just about every state.
A run of good luck for grain growers started with the drought breaking season of 2020-21 with 55.8 million tonnes harvested, the second-best season on record at the time. This gave growers the confidence needed to increase plantings and maintain the upward momentum.
And it paid off, when the following 2021-22 season became the all-time-record holder, with a burgeoning haul of 62.0 million tonnes, mostly due to a new state record from WA, almost 5.0 million tonnes higher than its previous best harvest.
This sets the scene for current season 2022-23 to not only break the Australian winter harvest record but it is also a season that offers local growers a path to international recognition as a world supplier of quality grain into the northern hemisphere.
If the upcoming local 2022/23 harvest reaches a high-end record estimate of 65 million tonnes it will include around 38 million tonnes of wheat. And up until now we have been exporting from 65 to 70% from each season, around 25 million tonnes and that trend should continue.

With many world markets in complete turmoil current circumstances are strong pointers to some of the highest wheat prices ever paid for our local produce.
With the rush for on-farm grain storage and logistics systems, the first call should go to the fastest growing supplier, due to their quick service and expertise in setting up On-farm installations, Allied Grain Systems.
On-Farm storage of grain is what is currently working in the favour of growers. It enables them to take control of their grain marketing and be able to sell at the height of top prices.
And with the right On-farm system, growers can maintain grain quality by keeping product at optimum storage temperatures and keeping a watch on pest control.
Allied Grain Systems’ in-house grain expert Dave Markham explains the move behind why storing grain On-farm is allowing growers to get the crop off entirely during a busy harvest without the need to worry about a rash decision to sell the grain at the first, or what looks like the best offer at the time.
On-Farm storage initially is proving to reward growers with the best prices in our most current seasons.

Allied Grain Systems’ Dave Markham details how his customers have found that much of the upfront costs of installing well manufactured grain silo bins and a dedicated conveying systems can be repaid by simply by avoiding third party storage and transport costs.
In addition, Dave Markham points out how On-farm access to product also allows for more blending and classing of the grain and that often value-adds for a higher selling price.
And for growers that realise they could have gained a higher price over the past few seasons by not selling at harvest, and waiting a little longer, On-farm grain storage allows them to hold onto the bulk at least, until the market offers higher prices.
Once an On-farm storage system is in place, it’s all about reducing costs.
Freight costs for instance will be at an all-time high this season, so the fewer trips from On-farm to the warehousing can be negotiated to a cheaper price, will save heaps.
Design and delivery
The advantage that Allied Grain Systems can offer is for the On-farm storage to be designed and constructed to suit every individual farm operation.
Their key goal is to make sure the grain will be stored in optimum conditions with their silos built to ensure correct level of aeration, and as a result preserve the grain quality.
Another aspect is to help growers manage any pests and diseases with the minimum level of chemical control options being applied.
Dave Markham points out that to be truly effective, silos must have a robust and gas-tight seal, and this is where Allied Grain Systems’ silos have an edge.
Built to the Australian Standard 2628-2010, these Silos can hold phosphine gas and other fumigants to kill insects at all life stages.

And as a result, the silo sealing system has been independently recognised as one of the best performing to the level of being the market leader in this aspect.
Dave Markham also pointed out that it was the fact that Allied Grain Systems is able to install cost-effective grain storage and handling systems for any particular farm operation that was its ongoing reason to gain the following the company holds.
While based in Young NSW, there is also an active Toowoomba branch, and Silo storage and handling systems are being installed in every state.
Partners with AGI
AGI makes an open claim as being the global leader in the planning, engineering and manufacturing of total On-farm solutions and systems for grain, fertiliser, food, feed and seed.
One of the advantages of being an AGI partner is access to the most popular grain storage technology known as SureTrack, for both hardware and software.
AGI SureTrack gives grain growers immediate access to every phase of storage and monitoring of their On-farm grain all in the one secure location for record keeping and deliveries.
Dave Markham points out how Allied Grain Systems and its partners can offer a product and service covering all facets of grain handling – from conveyors to silos, bin management technology and weighbridges.
And besides retailing conveyors and augers, Allied Grain Systems also manufactures cone and flat bottom silos in Young NSW with capacities ranging upwards from 400 to 2300 tonnes.
Allied Grain Systems is Australian owned and has been involved in agriculture since 1911.

Allied Grain Systems and AGI struck up a trusted work relationship
Allied Grain Systems with a manufacturing base in Young NSW has been a trusted partner of North American powerhouse AGI to supply effective grain storage and handling solutions to local growers since 2007.
AGI is a global leader in the planning, engineering, and manufacturing of total solutions for growers across five farming platforms – grain, fertiliser, food, feed and seed.
The alliance between Allied Grain Systems and AGI carries the clear endorsement of the confidence that growers have for the product range and the commitment to the supply the local market with world leading product.
Allied Grain Systems, like its partner AGI, is a specialist as well.
The Allied company has expertise in design, supply and the installation of silos and grain conveying systems and is active throughout the country.
Allied spokesman Cameron Livolsi said growers respected for many and varied reasons, “Ours is a very diverse business with interests in all facets of grain handling from conveyors to silos and weighbridges.”
“We are delighted to have AGI equipment. Most of the growers are aware of what comes into the country, and they know what they are buying with an AGI product because it’s very reliable, very well made and very efficient.
“The AGI conveying systems, like their augers, are high quality and competitively priced. They’re made of heavy gauge steel, and we have customers everywhere, who are very happy with the product,” Cameron added.
Allied Grain Systems Dave Markham added that the company’s diversity was “perfectly complemented” by AGI’s broad range, “AGI is one of the biggest grain handling businesses in the world and its respect with growers and the global footprint it has reinforces the faith in the product.”
“They have everything from mobile conveyors to silos, bucket elevators, fertilisers – they are in that space, and they are very good at what they do. The quality of the product sells itself.
“When farmers come in and see the product, they are obviously very happy with what they see.
Besides retailing conveyors and augers, Allied Grain Systems also manufactures silos in Young NSW with sizes ranging upwards from 400 to 2300 tonnes in storage capacity.
