With the launch of bagMUSTER the agricultural industry is taking a meaningful step towards driving sustainable and responsible agriculture

The agricultural industry is taking a significant step toward a more sustainable future with the introduction of bagMUSTER, an innovative initiative aimed at tackling single-use plastic bag waste on farms.
Set to launch in early 2025 and proudly operated by Agsafe, bagMUSTER will provide a practical solution for managing the disposal of single-use agricultural bags, helping the industry adopt more environmentally responsible practices.
Background to bagMUSTER
bagMUSTER is an industry-led product stewardship program focused on collecting and recycling single-use polypropylene (PP) agricultural plastic bags.
The program will initially operate through a network of collection sites in the Ballarat region, Northern Victoria, the Mallee/Wimmera, and key urban centres like Geelong and Western Melbourne suburbs.
Growers in these areas can drop off used bags such as those for crop protection products, fertiliser, seed, grain (excluding silo bags), stock feed, and pet food.
The goal is to divert these plastic materials from farms, landfills, and waterways, ensuring they are properly recycled. Over time, bagMUSTER will expand to cover all of Victoria and eventually other states, as more recycling facilities become available.

How bagMUSTER works
Participating in bagMUSTER is simple. Purchase polypropylene bags from participating retailers to ensure they are eligible for collection.
Collect and store the used bags until ready for recycling, making sure they are clean, empty, and free of non-PP liners, then roll or fold them for easy transport. Register your bags online at bagMUSTER.org.au and select a collection site.
Finally, drop off the registered bags at the nominated collection site with your registration confirmation. As the program grows, more collection points will be added across Australia, making recycling more accessible to all. See the initial drop-off locations here.
A step towards sustainability
bagMUSTER is committed to reducing the environmental impact of plastic waste in agriculture.
By promoting recycling and removing plastics from farms, the program helps move the sector closer to a circular economy—preserving natural resources and reducing pollution.
Participants will receive certificates of collection, which can be used to meet food safety and Best Management Practice requirements.
