Daniher bale feeder is a farm grown idea that reduces feeding strain

Feed out round or large square bales or loose fodder while sitting in the safety of your vehicle cab with the Daniher bale feeder

With a Daniher Bale Feeder the whole operation can be done safely by one person and with reduced wastage if there is any feed left over at the end of a run

Pat and Margaret Daniher had so much faith in their farm shed-made bale feeder that they decided to enter the unit into the Henty Field days Agri-Innovators Competition.

As it turned out, the Daniher Bale Feeders were a big hit at the Henty Field Days in 2016 where the product took first prize in the Inventors competition.

It’s fair to say that win catapulted the Daniher Bale Feeders on its way to becoming one of those farm-grown inventions that makes it onto the big stage.

As many inventors can attest, a win at Henty or anywhere else is no guarantee the product will ever make it to regular production, but thankfully the Daniher bale feeder was just what plenty of other farmers wanted in their feeding program as well.

The background behind this farm shed-built invention represents a wish list of what is ideal in a single-person operation feeding system.

Daniher bale feeders can handle round or large square bales of hay, either loose or whole bales and loose fodder such as cotton seed, and all are operated from the safety of a vehicle cab.

Take the Daniher Bale Feeders system to the max with a double-length feeder that holds two large square bales or four round bales and optional side panels on the Ute tray model to add extra load

There is a strong emphasis on safe delivery as the remote-controlled conveyor belt moves the bales from a Ute tray or trailer to fall as a stack of neat biscuits that feed off the back of the belt.

Hand-held control is the secret ingredient to the success of the Daniher Bale Feeder as there is no longer any need to clamber around the Ute or trailer to throw the hay off manually, just sit in the cab and let the feeder do all the work.

Inventor Pat Daniher explained, “There is currently no smarter or quicker way of delivering feed to stock.

“The bales fall off the belt in a manageable size for mobs of livestock of all sizes.

“And there is no more running around the paddock picking up pieces of string, as the baling string is held in place by slots on the back of the tray unit for easy removal at the end of the run, Pat added.

Once a Daniher Bale Feeder is introduced to a property it will immediately cut many tasks down from a two-person operation to just one.

And the clever belt feeder design can be adapted to suit many hauling operations, such as after cleaning out yards or stables and then spreading straw and mulch around orchards.

Everything is so well thought-out with the Daniher Bale Feeder, following a full paddock run, if there is still half a bale left on the belt, there is no need to waste it. Just hit the remote and run the belt in reverse to reposition the bale and take it back to the shed or another paddock.

Since the first model release and multiple innovation award wins, the Danihers have gone on to increase the capacity of their build with an updated design for the single bale feeder that can now feed out one large square bale or two round bales.

And through popular requests, an additional double-length feeder has been added that holds two large square bales or four round bales, all able to be safely managed by remote control of the belt on the bale feeder.

In addition, there is also a round bale attachment available as an optional extra to unroll round bales, and sides that can be attached to hold in more loose material such as fodder or straw. Also handy for anything else that needs to be dropped off around the farm.

Mount to a Ute or trailer

Daniher Bale Feeders are operated from the safety of the vehicle’s driver seat by using the optional remote or the rocker switch supplied.

There are single or double-length versions to choose from with the capacity of one large square bale or two round bales, or two large square bales or four round bales respectively.

The single bale feeder unit fits onto a standard one-tonne flat tray Ute or can be mounted onto a 2.7 X 1.8m (9 X 6ft) tandem trailer for paddock work and also for road transport between jobs.

While the double bale feeder is mounted onto a 4.85 X 1.8m (16 X 6ft) tandem trailer and power is supplied by the Ute’s electrical system (battery) or by the optional extension cable.

When loaded onto a registered vehicle or towed the bales can be transported on public roads. The single bale feeder unit weighs 240kg, while the double bale feeder unit weighs 460kg.

A farmer that expects equipment to handle just about anything thrown at it will go for the option of extended sides to turn the bale feeder into a handy transport carrier of all types of material

The Daniher units can be lifted on and off a Ute or trailer using a sling strap and forks of a tractor or farm loader.

These units are built to last with seven machined rollers under the belt to support the weight of the bales on the single unit while there are 12 machined rollers on the double unit.

The end rollers are fixed with a tracking guide to keep the ridged belt in place to eliminate drift issues.

It is recommended that whatever model is chosen, make sure it is optioned with a remote control for instant and safe handling of the feed roller.
