The Nationals lose a significant foothold of the valuable work built up over the past four years with the resignation of David Littleproud as leader of the Nationals Party, announced just minutes ago.
David Littleproud has appeared as leader of The Nationals for the last time at a media conference, with wife Amelia at his side. It was obvious he was filled with emotion, saying it is time for someone else to lead the party.
It is understood he will continue in federal parliament as the Member for Maranoa and also indicated he will contest the next election in 2028.
“I’m buggered, I’ve had enough,” he told reporters at the media conference.
The media conference became very tense when the former leader began to show his emotions openly, saying it had been very tense leading the party since the May 2025 election.
“I have been a punching bag for months. I don’t really give a rat’s, but at some point you … have to be honest with yourself,” David lamented.
“It is time for me to feel normal again.”
History will recall a grand run by David Littleproud, leading The Nationals since 2022, when he consolidated ideals of the party to those portroyd by previous leader Barnaby Joyce, now a One Nation MP.
