2022 Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days: August 24th & 25th
Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days is back with renewed energy for 2022
As a not-for-profit organisation, all the profit generated through the Field Days goes directly back into the local region. Through the fundraising efforts of over 300 volunteers for their nominated clubs and organisations, as well as significant donations offered through our grants & funding Committee, Dowerin and the wider community benefit greatly from this event.
The Dowerin Field Days itself is the largest and most widely recognised agricultural event in Western Australia. The Committee has built a strong reputation over its 54 year history, with the brand recognised throughout Australia and increasingly overseas, across rural, regional and metropolitan areas.
The Dowerin Field Days directly targets attendees from agricultural regions, attracting over 25,000 visitors each year. Recent studies have shown that over 70% of all attendees come from rural and regional areas and most own or run an agricultural related business. Around 7000 broadacre farmers attend the event each year and over half of all visitors stated their reason for attending was a strong interest in agricultural products and services.
But in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of the Dowerin Community in establishing and maintaining the unique event, the Committee has also involved themselves in promoting the event beyond an agricultural context, to acknowledge its importance to rural tourism. As a result the Field Days has won several tourism awards at a state and national level. After taking our the WA award for “Significant Local Festivals and Special Events in 1995, the event went on to win the National award in the same category and then proceeded to be the winner of the category again in 1996 and 1997. In 1998 the Dowerin Field Days was inducted into the Sir David Brand Tourism Awards Hall of Fame.
The return of the Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days in 2021 saw record breaking numbers with 24,838 people in attendance over the two days. This was our biggest Field Day in 20 years, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to this enormous success.
This was the first year we had gone to online ticketing and to say it was a success would be an understatement, the online ticketing system made queues fly through the gate and tickets remained available right up to our gates.
We were treated to two extremely kind days of weather. It was a beautiful sunny Wednesday and the Thursday held off with the rain until around 6pm.
There was something for everyone from Monster Trucks to fashion parades, to headers and sprayers to lawn mowers and chainsaws. The diverse range that is offered at the Dowerin Field Days is what makes it unique at the fact that there is truly something for everyone.
We would like to thank our major sponsors GWN7 and Shire of Dowerin for their continuous loyalty and support.
We sent out a heartfelt thank you to all the exhibitors who attended the 2021 Field Days. The exhibitor set ups and attendance this year were something out of this world and each and everyone of our exhibitors did a tremendous job with setting up of sites. We hope to see all of our exhibitors return to the 2022 Field Days for another successful year. To those who were unable to attend due to COVID Safe restrictions, we missed you all and look forward to seeing your smiling faces again next year!
Our event would not be possible without the help of our wonderful volunteers from near and far. Our volunteers are the backbone of the event and can not be spoken more highly of. They contribute many hours of their time to come and make the Field Days what it is so we send out a thank you to every single one of you who contributed and made time to help out.
Thank you to all the visitors who attended the Field Days. We hope that you enjoyed the time you spent at the Field Days as much as we did organising it. We hope to see everyone back in Dowerin on the 24 & 25 August in 2022 for another successful year.
Our staff, Nadine McMorran, Tracy Jones, Wendy Flavel, Lisa Smith and Patsy Metcalf, we have already commenced our planning for the 2022 event, where we hope to see you all again.
Green in winter and golden in summer, Dowerin lies 156km north east of Perth and is only a 2 hour scenic drive from the city along the Pioneers Pathway. Dowerin is nestled in the heart of the Wheatbelt and enjoys a temperate climate with winter rainfall and hot, dry summers. This appealing country environment is complemented by a range of easily accessible community and sport facilities for the benefit of local people and visitors alike.
The Shire of Dowerin has a population of approximately 701 residents and there is an impressive average of 45,000 tourists visiting the Shire every year.
