On the last Wednesday and Thursday in August the Dowerin Machinery Field Days unites Western Australia’s agricultural industry and is a vital information highway and one stop shop for farmers, primary producers, agricultural workers, and their families, in a community environment that encourages unique engagement and connection with industry and commerce.

2026 Dowerin Machinery Field Days: 26 and 27 August

The rise of machines, tech and big farms.

For the past six decades the Dowerin Machinery Field Days (DMFD) has showcased the latest international farm machinery along with homemade innovations that are world leading in their design.

When the Dowerin community came together back in the 1960’s to raise funds to water the local footy oval and tennis courts by running a farm machinery field day a tradition was started; a tradition that has grown to become one of Australia’s leading farm events. Over the decades the rapidly changing technology on display each year has been a showcase of an industry hungry to adopt the biggest and the best.

As technology advanced, so has machinery. Today’s farm machinery combines advanced engineering and sophisticated ag technology to drive efficiency and productivity to levels even recently thought to be unachievable.

This combination of design and technology and modern farming management practices has allowed our farmers to improve their resilience to better manage the myriads of risks that come with running complex farming operations and remain competitive in a globalised world that demands more grain from every hectare.

By every measure the pace of change is speeding up. The next wave of productivity improvements will be driven by advances in automation, robotics, remote sensing, data analytics and digital platforms, along with genetic tools and continuing crop and soil science research.

Dowerin is proud to be there every step of the way and be the leading platform to showcase the aspirations and advancements and help realise an innovative, resilient, and sustainable sector.

We remain true to the original Field Days’ ethos which we now express as Growing Industry, Seeding Connections, Cultivating Community.

New sheds powering opportunities in Dowerin

DMFD has undergone its own transformation to better meet the needs of the stakeholders.

In 2024 an 64m x 24m multipurpose shed was a notable addition to investments into infrastructure for the site, which also included a newly refurbished Euroz Hartleys Pavilion, new public ticket entrance builds at Gates 1 and 3 and other building refurbishments around the grounds to improve the look and functionality of the amenities, representing the largest upgrade to its site infrastructure in the Field Days history.

Over the last 3 years in line with the strategic plan, the site layout has evolved to improve zoning to create hubs and clusters to help foster connections between relevant suppliers and make for a better visitor experience. This also enables the full utilisation of the event site to meet the ever-growing demand for the number of exhibitor applications.

“DMFD provides platforms to engage stakeholders, connect decision makers and showcase the Wheatbelt. The infrastructure improvements and additions have positively impacted commercial returns for the agricultural sector whilst benefiting the wider community. These infrastructure investments are about more than just building sheds – it’s about building greater opportunities for WA’s agricultural sector and the people who drive it,”  DMFD Event Team.

Connecting the country to the city

Dowerin is also playing a leading advocacy role in showcasing the scale and innovation of WA’s grain growers to a Perth audience, giving the public insight into the industry and what it contributes to economy, whilst actively supporting their vitality and long-term sustainability.

Since 2022 Dowerin hosts an annual “Bringing Dowerin downtown Lunch”.

The lunch, supported by Wheatbelt Development Commission and Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, is now considered the premier forum for industry and government to address and inform other c-suite business leaders and the broader business community, and the State’s farmers on policies, key issues and opportunities in the agricultural sector.

Unlocking and promoting new technologies is vital to achieving the ambitious Treasury target for the Australian agricultural sector to reach $100 billion by 2030.

In 2024, Dowerin went one step further. Five combine harvesters descended onto Langley Park in Perth’s CBD to showcase the scale of machinery used on-farm, advancements in technology and to interconnect our rural and urban communities. Watch the Perth activation video here

How To Get There

Green in winter and golden in summer, Dowerin lies 156km north east of Perth and is only a two-hour scenic drive from the city along the Pioneers Pathway. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by Rusty our Tin Dog, who stands guard at the Western entrance to town proudly representing the spirit and ingenuity of this small rural community.

Dowerin is nestled in the heart of the Wheatbelt and enjoys a temperate climate with winter rainfall and hot, dry summers. This appealing country environment is complemented by a range of easily accessible community and sport facilities for the benefit of local people and visitors alike.

The Shire of Dowerin has a population of approximately 700 residents, and there is an impressive average of 45,000 tourists visiting the Shire every year.
