| Farmers interested in becoming short stay landlords and growing the state’s agritourism sector through farm stays are encouraged to attend free industry webinars in April. The Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) and Airbnb have partnered to facilitate webinars showcasing Australian farmers. It features farmers that have already who found success starting up their own agritourism experiences and are now offering advice to other enthusiastic farmers on how they can do the same. QFF CEO Dr Georgina Davis said agritourism brought valuable tourism dollars to regional Australia and helps farmers diversify their income by sharing where Queensland’s high quality food, fibre and foliage comes from and how it is produced. “Agritourism provides opportunities for farmers to expand their businesses and market their produce through alternative channels, while gathering valuable feedback from consumers,” Dr Davis said. “Consumers desire to better understand where their food comes from, learn how it is produced and experience the ultimate in low food miles. “Agritourism has an important role in creating a more direct connection between primary producers and the end consumer.” “The upcoming webinars aim to help farmers become farm stay or experience hosts on Airbnb and provide a bespoke guide to help them play a role in growing sustainable tourism in their region.” “We encourage Queensland farmers to attend and unlock the potential for agritourism in the state, add value beyond their farm gate and share the incredible and diverse regions they call home.” Derek Nolan, Airbnb’s Head of Public Policy for Australia said Queenslanders are always looking to explore their own backyard through unique, authentic experiences that immerse them in regional communities. “Farm stays are a terrific way to both help farmers diversify their income, as well as put their communities on the tourism map. “Farmers can also develop unique Experiences on Airbnb, which is an exciting way to further grow their tourism business alongside the accommodation they offer. “Experiences are one-of-a-kind activities hosted by experts and a great way to creatively give visitors another way to connect with rural life,” Mr Nolan said. “Importantly, each farm stay host plays a vital role in growing tourism in Queensland and across their region, helping local businesses thrive and showing guests what makes their patch of the world so very special.” This is where you can access the Farm stay information and register for the webinars.
