Another 110 field days and rural shows around the country hit with closure in 2020 will share in funding grants worth over $700,000 to help them stage some cracking events for 2021
In addition there will be a further $100,000 available in operational support of the Field Days annual conference being held from 30 April to 2 May 2021.
This round of $710,817.54 funding is covered under a plan called the supplementary expense claims and has been approved under the Supporting Agricultural Shows and Field Days program.
This supplementary funding will be deposited into grantees bank accounts through-out April and June 2021.
It is estimated that almost $34 million has already gone out to the 378 field days and rural shows approved for funding for costs paid from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020.
With this support, many field days and rural agricultural shows have been able to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic that dealt a heavy blow to events in 2020.
It is a fitting tribute to the hard work of committees and their band of enthusiastic volunteers to bounce back strongly for 2021, and continue support of local communities through funds the events raise.
These events are at the heart of our rural and regional communities and help farmers stay competitive by sharing the most recent farm innovations and also be introduced to ways of running their farm businesses for added income.
This latest round of funding has picked up many shortfalls experienced by field days and rural show committees, and puts them into a position of ensuring the events will be held in 2021 and beyond.
Support for Field Days Agricultural Shows
There is an estimated 580 field days and agricultural shows nationwide, and they contribute $1 billion to the economy, six million visitors serviced by 50,000 volunteers.
Agricultural shows have become an integral part of rural communities as they display the most authentic and accessible first-hand experience of knowledge for farming and regional living.
Around 500 field days and shows were cancelled in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
By September 2020 the Supporting Agricultural Shows and Field Days program was launched to provide operational support for events that had to cancelled.
Three hundred and seventy-eight shows and field days were approved for funding in December 2020 and have received almost $34 million.
Now the additional funding for 110 shows and field days allows them to take a breather as they have been approved for $710,817.54 in supplementary payments. Banked from April to June 2021.
The program has helped to relieve cash flow pressures as it provides a one-off payment for organisers to reimburse their eligible expenses for cancelled shows and field day events.
