With good rain across most viticultural districts, rapid growth in inter-row grasses and vegetation is on vineyard management lists for attention.
A vineyard mower that has been purpose-designed to mow the full vine inter-row width of 1.93 metres (or 6 feet) is the Gason 6FT Twin Rotor Rapier vineyard mower.
Manufactured by the long established and family owned AF Gason of Ararat in Victoria, the entire range of Rapier mowers is built tough and has earned a great reputation in the grape growing industry for over thirty years for their quality, efficiency, durability and reliable service.
Rapier mowers have been exported to premium and major scale vineyards as far afield as California and are also very popular in New Zealand’s wine-growing regions.
Reflecting their hardy durability, the Rapier vineyard mowers can be fitted with an optional trash anvil attachment to make the Rapier an ideal choice for shredding vine prunings. The beneficial mulch is distributed along or under the vine rows for breakdown or soil enhancement.
Laser cutting of the heavyweight 6mm steel deck and other components, CNC pressing, welding, sandblasting and paint finishing for the Rapier mowers is all conducted in-house at Gason’s Ararat manufacturing facility.
The Rapier mowers use the heavy-duty, well-proven and premium-quality Italian Comer gearboxes, PTO shafts and clutches with their ability to accommodate heavier workloads and drive-line stresses.
The heavier Comer gearboxes have a noticeable spread of the bearing load making them ideal match with the now common heavier horsepower tractors.
The Rapier design includes rear discharge chutes either side of a domed roller, but if this distribution feature is not required it can be replaced by twin heavy-duty rear castor wheels fitted with puncture-proof wheel assemblies.
