Steiger 785 Quadtrac special edition tractor evokes blast from past

Case IH has been quick to unveil a special edition Steiger 785 Quadtrac that was only launched worldwide in the US last month in a very distinctive colour

The release of a special-edition Steiger 785 Quadtrac in original lime green livery will evoke some strong reactions from previous owners who saw the change to Case IH red in 1986

Rather than the customary Case IH red, a special edition Steiger 785 Quadtrac has been painted lime green in a nod to the original colour of the iconic Steiger range.

Case IH local dealers are celebrating the global launch of model year 2026 Steiger 785 Quadtrac with a special edition model that has traded its red duco for the original green colour of the iconic Steiger range.

The tractor was first unveiled at the Farm Progress Show in the US last month, where members of the Steiger family, including Douglass Steiger’s daughter and granddaughter, were present to see the tractor in its original colours.

Case IH livery will apply to mainstream Steiger 785 Quadtrac models when they start appearing in paddocks later this year such as this fully loaded planting rig

Steiger legacy

The Steiger story began in 1957 when brothers Douglass and Maurice Steiger built their own high-powered, four-wheel-drive tractor for their farm in Minnesota USA. Demand quickly grew, leading to full-scale production and establishing Steiger as a leader in power and durability.

Case IH purchased the brand in 1986, transforming Steiger’s signature green into Case IH red while continuing to advance its power and technology.

Completing the heritage loop for the Steiger is an early 1980s Steiger Bearcat, that originally belonged to a NSW farming family before it was traded in 2020 and later restored to its Steiger-green livery.

The Steiger 785 Quadtrac brings with it nearly 10% more power than the Steiger 715 Quadtrac, enabling farmers to handle larger implements for greater productivity, or pull the same implements deeper to maximise yield potential.

“The Steiger has a proud legacy, and these two tractors, one from the 1980s and special-edition Steiger 785 Quadtrac, tell the story of how far we’ve come,” mused Justin Bryant, Case IH ANZ Product Manager. “While the colour has changed, the Steiger’s purpose has not: delivering unmatched power, productivity and reliability for our customers.”

The special-edition green Steiger and its earlier model cousin will be making appearances at field days and Case IH dealerships up until the end of the year.
