Almost all farmers over 55-years of age who have been exposed to loud noise will suffer some degree of hearing loss.

Occupational noise exposure from agricultural machinery, tools and pigs in sheds at feeding time are all culprits, but only 18% of farmers wear hearing protection while working with heavy machinery.

National Hearing Awareness Week is from August 21-27.
