HARDI is a crop spraying machinery manufacturer, based on a 10ha site at Cavan, and produces hundreds of specialised products annually with close to 25% of the national market.
Chief executive Bill Franklin said a new sprayer, the RUBICON, designed in France for Australian conditions with Australian design parameters, is expected to be the springboard for further rapid growth and the employment of more people in Adelaide.
Mr Franklin said the RUBICON will suit Australia’s relatively large grain farms because it is the largest in the world and can spray up to 1000ha a day.
“We are collaborating with our French sibling companies to design and jointly manufacture the largest self-propelled sprayer in Australia. It means we will be growing and doing more manufacturing and assembly here in Adelaide,” he said.
“We will be sourcing all the tyres and wheels in Australia, while the tanks will be sourced from suppliers in Adelaide, Clare and Mildura,” he said.
“Other parts including the hydraulic and spray line components will also be sourced here.
“The collaboration will involve jobs for South Australia and it has a lot of parallels with the submarine project.”
HARDI is owned by Danish-based Hardi International, ultimately owned by French company Exel Industries, which is the largest specialised manufacturer of agricultural sprayers in the world.
