His arrest followed a lengthy investigation by the SA Serious and Organised Crime Branch and Queensland Police.
The 50-year-old man was charged with 12 counts of theft and granted bail to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court next month.
Officers said they recovered a substantial amount of the stolen equipment in SA and Queensland, including earth-moving equipment, farming machinery and a purpose-built car racing transport trailer.
Those items were stolen between 2006 and last year.
Police said they also went to the Adelaide Hills property of the arrested man and seized more transport equipment, including eight semi-trailers, which they suspected had been stolen.
