Determined to celebrate the successes of WA’s agricultural sector and rural communities, Wagin Woolorama will kick off a hopeful new year for field days events and rural shows across the country
With the COVID pandemic forcing the cancellation of most agricultural field days and rural shows around the country in 2020, organisers have a head of steam up for this year’s planned events.
One of the first field days on the calendar is Wagin Woolorama in WA on March 5th and 6th. Apart from the recent scare with a brief lockdown in Perth, Western Australia has largely enjoyed life without restrictions and at Woolorama they’re planning to celebrate that successful run.
This year’s event will mark the 118th Wagin Agricultural Show and the 49th Woolorama.
At the two-day event, the community of Wagin and the surrounding region will come together to celebrate the diversity of agricultural life and showcase the best of what WA has to offer.
Woolorama offers a fantastic day out for the whole family with lots to see and do, including an extensive range of livestock competitions, art shows, photography, craft, home industries, fashion, rides and entertainment for all ages, plus a spectacular rodeo on Saturday night.
Wagin Woolorama Rodeo
The Wagin Woolorama Rodeo is affiliated with the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA) and features barrel racing, roping, and steer and bull rides. ABCRA is Australia’s largest Rodeo, Campdraft and Challenge Sorting & Penning Association with over 5000 members.
Live Music
Show goers can look forward to live performances from up and coming WA singer and songwriter Hayden McGlinn, experienced solo performer Joseph Graham and Aussie rockers The Sheds.
Young Farmer Challenge
The Young Farmer Challenge will also return at Wagin Woolorama 2021 and the call is out for young farmers aged 18 to 35 to enter and show their skills.
Rural Youth Ambassador for Wagin Agricultural Society, Kelly Gorter, with the support from NextGen Ag Committee, will be coordinating Wagin Woolorama’s Young Farmer Challenge (YFC) again in 2021 and hopes the event will be a big crowd pleaser.
Kelly said the event is a lot of fun for competitors and provides much amusement and hilarity for spectators, who are encouraged to come along and cheer on their mates.
The challenge allows young farmers from around the Wagin region to showcase the depth of knowledge and technical skill required in agriculture today. Challenges may include things such as heavy lifting, vehicle movement, first aid, fencing, a theory component, movement of livestock, or any other task you could think of that might be done on a farm.
Those who win their local YFC go straight through to the state finals which are held once a year in each state, to battle it out for the title of Australian Young Farmer Challenge Champion.
