Massey Ferguson has introduced the MF 5S Series of supreme loader utility tractors in a striking current era design and with the most enhanced operator experience available

Massey Ferguson had considerable success with their MF 5700 S line of utility tractors and when the time came to replace that range it would be up to AGCO engineers to make sure no ground would be lost.
That time has come, in the form of the MF 5S Series of four-cylinder tractors spanning the engine power range that you find on most farms, 77 to 107kW (105 to 145hp) outputs.
And most noticeably as you draw up to the MF 5S Series, it has styling that reflects the current MF look, first introduced on the multiple award-winning larger MF 8S models.
Positioning the MF 5S Series into a sector that will draw more farmer’s attention, there is now a far more powerful top end model, along with an overall shift upwards in power outputs for all tractors in the range.

In addition, the MF 5S Series also brings with it increased rear linkage lift capacity, higher permitted gross vehicle weights and a hood design with a narrow steep nose that provides first-rate visibility for manoeuvres in yards, around buildings and working a front-end loader.
Massey Ferguson has retained MF 5S Series tractors as a five-model range, all available with either Dyna-4 providing 16×16 gears (32×32 with creep) and four powershift ratios on a four-speed range box.
Or the more advanced operator that understands the capabilities of this Series has the choice to opt for the similar in concept Dyna-6 with six powershift speeds for a 24×24 configuration or 48×48 with creep gears added.
Both choices come with brake-to-neutral technology that automatically disengages drive as the tractor is about to stop under braking and engages it again to move off when the pedal is released.

Apart from increased power outputs, the 4.4-litre AGCO Power engine strapped into the body offers extended engine oil/filter and fuel filter changes out to 600 hours.
In addition, there is an added benefit with these clean and improved cooling European Stage V emissions engines, that are stricter on particulate matter than the Stage IV and equivalent US Tier 4 requirements.
The cleaner exhaust gas output is achieved by adding a ‘soot catalyst’ to the after-treatment package, that comprises a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and the SCR anti-NOx ammonia injection system.
These are all housed in a single container beneath the cab where, in contrast to some installations, it does not impede visibility.
All five models are built on the same 2.55m wheelbase and together with a sharp-turning 4m turning radius front axle this gives MF 5S Series tractors top marks for manoeuvrability in any tight spots.
A further drawcard for an operator looking for more than a brisk utility is that the MF 5S Series also possess sufficient stability to handle larger wider implements and mounted equipment.

To back up their prowess in the paddock, gross vehicle weight has been increased to 9,500kg to accommodate heavier equipment, while the capacity of the rear three-point linkage has been increased across the range from 5200kg previously to a very generous 6000kg.
There is also the option of making full use of the front assembly with an upgraded lift from the previous MF 5700 S line of 2500 to 3000kg on MF 5S Series models. Something unlikely to be found on other badges in this power sector.
To accommodate the additional weight, the front axle has been uprated to a higher capacity unit with a revised suspension design for operators who want a smoother running experience.
Engineers found this upgrade was no mean feat, and finally achieved it by fitting two longer-stroke hydraulic cylinders and three accumulators to absorb bumps and shocks.
These tractors are capable of handling the most demanding tasks, while mowing, tedding, raking, and baling wet and dry hay is easily managed in its stride.

Several different gear pump hydraulic set-ups are carried over from the MF 5700 S series, comprising a 58-litre/min main pump supported by a 32-litre/min unit feeding the power steering and other ancillary systems.
A further upgrade adds a second main pump of 42-litre/min capacity dedicated to the spool valves to obtain more rapid operation of the front linkage or a hydraulic loader.
For optimum loading performance, the 58 and 42-litre/min pumps can both supply the spools, that are mechanical for the most part with the option to add electric units or go fully electric on higher specification models.
Top-spec machines can also be equipped with a 110-litre/min load-sensing piston pump with its variable output delivering only as much oil as is needed across different engine speeds.
Operators can choose from two trim and specification packages, Essential or Efficient.
The Essential trim has Speed matching for the powershift ratios, a single gear pump installation with up to four spool valves, an optional hydraulic control joystick and transmission control through a ‘T’ lever.

MF Connect telemetry is an option on all MF 5S Series tractors for remote access to information on the machine’s current position, movements trail and a selection of operational data. Opt for the Efficient trim finish and get higher volume aircon aims to keep operators more comfortable and pre-installed MF TaskDoc logging and paddock records along with MF Task Doc Pro with wireless data transfer
Going Efficient brings two mechanical and two electric spool valves at the rear of the tractor along with mid-mount and other options and the possibility to add MF’s Datatronic 5 terminal with its ISOBUS implement control functions.
Built-in software, available by purchasing an unlock key, include guidance, section control and rate control, that has been uprated to handle 36 sections.
While Efficient also comes with pre-installed MF TaskDoc logging and paddock records, and MF Task Doc Pro with wireless data transfer.
Elsewhere in the cab, higher volume aircon aims to keep operators cool in hot weather and demist or defrost the windows faster.

All MF 5S Series tractors have been designed to deliver optimum front-end-loader handling, and as a result deliver ultimate loader performance.

Operators appreciate the visibility just 4m ahead of the tractor over the slim dashboard and the narrowest steep-nose bonnet in this power sector.
The highly manoeuvrable design is easily controlled for flow and response through a left-hand Power Control lever or right-hand T-handle to change direction, shift speeds or select neutral.
Massey Ferguson MF 5S Series tractors come loader operator ready, are safe and easy to control with more overall comfort. Operators have a choice of joysticks to position the loader as well as change direction and speeds as required.
This advanced tractor series still retains a simple operation regime in a comfortable work environment that offers adjustable shuttle movement from slow and smooth to fast and dynamic direction changes.
This makes Massey Ferguson MF 5S Series tractors the leading contenders in the 77 to 107kW (105 to 145hp) power segment.
