XCMG Australia has started 2023 with an emphasis on gaining more market share for its range of more than 30 models of wheel loaders, forklifts, mini excavators and excavators, that local farmers have shown high interest in, as well as rollers, graders, scissor lifts and boom lifts for all industries.
All XCMG models are fitted with premium componentry by leading brands such as Cummins, Kubota, Eaton, Bosch-Rexroth, Isuzu and ZF. All brands that can readily be replaced if required, and this is part of the attraction for a range of models built to perform with high versatility and durability.
XCMG has built a global reputation for their brand in a relatively short time of just over forty years of manufacturing, but then XCMG has had an advantage of starting out as manufacturers of some of the world’s most renowned cranes.

Let’s take a look at some of the most recent models XCMG has released from wheel loaders to mini and heavy-duty excavators.
XCMG XC948 wheel loader
Apart from supplying many industries, there was a point where XCMG realised farmers were highly potential customers for a specialist loader and as a result, have released a model especially to cater for the growing on-farm wheel loader trend.
That model is the XC948 wheel loader with an operating weight of 14,500kg, with an extra heavy-duty load frame design for extended machine life. It joins a line of XCMG loaders that encompasses 12 models.
The XMCG XC948 wheel loader was developed for our local farmer and jobbing market and is a comfortable model to operate with a focus on being fuel-efficient, as well as reliable and durable for isolated and more remote operations.
The XC948 is also joined by some more powerful wheel loaders if that situation is called for, including the new-generation XC958 with an 18,000kg operating weight, and the XC998 with an operating weight leap up to 30,500kg.
All these models are decked out to deliver power when it’s needed and are designed as energy efficiency with safety and operator comfort high on the list. With a full hydraulic wet brake system that is highly reliable and maintenance-free.
The XMCG XC948 wheel loader has been kept as a strong but simple build to cater for remote location operations and as a result, is fitted with a reliable Cummins QSB 6.7 litre Euro 3 emissions engine that bulks up an adequate 124kW (190hp) of power.
The XC948 also has what operators are looking for in a versatile work loader with a load bearing of 4000kg with up to a 2810mm dump height. And add to that a dump stretch of 1082mm.
And there is more to the XC948 than many will expect, starting with a highly reliable ZF 5WG210 automatic transmission, ZF wet drive axle, and a current electro-hydraulic load sensing hydraulic system that also improves fuel economy.
This high-torque electronic control engine matched with the 5-speed fully automatic transmission gives the operator every chance to realise a high level of working efficiency. Maximum travel speed is 36kph.
The 4-in-1 bucket can be sized to handle 2.4cub.m, depending on the material and working conditions. And can be equipped with a quick changer to quickly switch between different buckets and tools to meet the various needs of jobbing.
The optional diversified attachments include sliding forks, clamps, lifting appliances, and a quick-change device. All can be installed to realise the multi-functionality the loader offers. Turning radius is 5.2m.
The XC948 is fitted with an optimised linkage structure and quantitative hydraulic system with a breakout force up to 130kN, with on-demand distribution of fluid for steering and work operations.
The international standard panoramic cab is ROPS and FOPS certified and offers a fully air-conditioned dust proof work environment with low-noise levels.
The panoramic window design cab offers 360-degree visibility and conformed to current ergonomic requirements with a joystick control and includes as standard front and rear work light.
Cabin access via the ladders, passageway and flat operation platform and exit are all compliant and easy to manoeuvre.
And once inside there is a comfortable suspension seat that offers a command position over the digital dashboard display that makes it easy for the operator to check on running status and any information at a glance.
While the joystick controls everything, it is simple to operate with command-based controls including automatic position restriction, buffering function, jog, level and lift, while automatic levelling ensures safer operation.
Maintenance access is well considered on the XC948 with a side tilting cab and a large-angle backward opening hood that gives a direct overview of all the major components and makes it easy to content with maintenance and servicing.
XCMG Excavators
XCMG offers a product line of nine excavators with a wide choice of track and wheel models.
These models are suited to a wide range of tasks and working conditions, including the smaller XE17U with an operating weight of 1,795kg.
With the renowned Kubota D902 engine, premium quality Bosch Rexroth hydraulic componentry, and Eaton swing and travel motors, the XE17U can easily deliver an efficient and durable performance.
With its well-crafted zero tail swing design and variable 990-1240mm track width it allows this model to access tight for space situations, on virtually any job site.
For the premium option in the mid-sized mini excavator class there is the XE55U with a 5,700kg operating weight for track machines.
Driven by a powerful and efficient Kubota V2403 engine, backed up by premium Bosch Rexroth hydraulic componentry, and with minimised tail swing operation, the XE55U can deliver a versatile and cost-effective performance.
With 158.5-litres/min of overall hydraulic flow this model allows operators to run a wide variety of attachments with smooth control and the power required for heavy-duty mulchers, augers and shears.
The fully enclosed cab is at the more spacious end of the scale and is set out in a current ergonomic layout that is climate-controlled and considered very comfortable for operators.
While included in the larger excavator range is XCMG’s XE490DK model with an operating weight of 48,100kg and a build that includes advanced design and manufacturing techniques based on years of research and development.
