John Deere leadership acknowledge Aussie farmers unique strength

International leaders gathered to see firsthand how precision farming has become a major part of helping operators with the trend to expand

John Deere leaders (L to R) Emma Ford, Ben Kelly, Deanna Kovar, Luke Gakstatter, Shiree Marshman and Luke Chandler met at John Deere Australia’s head office in Crestmead QLD

For John Deere global leader Deanna Kovar, it was a visit to Australia for the first time, prompted to take a closer look at how precision agriculture is being used one of the world’s most demanding farming environments.

Based in the United States, Deanna Kovar John Deere’s President of the Worldwide Agriculture & Turf Division Production and Precision Ag, felt it was important to engage with Aussie farmers.

The visit focused on directly engaging with farmers, dealers and staff at the John Deere HQ in Crestmead QLD on the scale, variability and distances that define farming here.

Deanna Kovar confirmed the conversations highlighted the global leadership of Australian farmers in adopting and implementing advanced agriculture technologies.

And analysed how John Deere engineers can continue to deliver value through precision ag solutions that are responsive to the unique needs of local farmers.

“Australia is a very important market for us globally, and for me personally it was important to spend time here listening and learning directly from customers, dealers and our local team,” Deanna Kovar said without hesitation.

“There’s no substitute for being on the ground and having conversations face-to-face.”

Deanna Kovar confirmed there’s a strong perception that Australian growers are thoughtful adopters of technology who lean into precision ag when it delivers real value

Reputation for practical innovation

Reflecting on her time in Australia, Deanna Kovar said the visit reinforced why the country is closely watched on the global stage.

“It’s been incredibly impressive to see firsthand what so many around the world already recognise, which is that Australia has a very strong reputation for highly capable, innovative and adaptable farmers,” Deanna Kovar expressed.

“There’s a real appreciation globally for the complexity of farming here, whether it’s managing climate variability, operating at large scale or working in remote environments.

“That has clearly shaped a very practical, solutions-focused approach to agriculture.”

The same theme carried through to Deanna Kovar observations of precision agriculture.

John Deere Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Luke Chandler expressed how Deanna Kovar’s visit reinforced Australia’s role in using and shaping future technology

“There’s a strong perception that Australian growers are thoughtful adopters of technology who lean into precision ag when it delivers real value,” Deanna Kovar added.

“In conditions as demanding as these, the focus on efficiency, reliability and productivity really stands out.

“Our dealers across Australia also play a critical role in helping farmers capture productivity gains and navigate highly variable conditions, often from very remote locations.

“It’s a testament to how committed they are to partnering with customers and finding the right solutions to keep their operations moving forward.”

John Deere Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Luke Chandler expressed how Deanna Kovar visit reinforced Australia’s role in shaping future ag technology.

“Australia plays a key role in leading the development and adoption of agricultural technology that has global impact, a great example being the high uptake of See & SprayTM Select,” Luke Chandler assured.

“By listening to and collaborating with local farmers and the agriculture industry we create solutions that deliver real value for farm businesses, and that is reflected in the uptake we are seeing of John Deere technology.

“This value is further elevated through the support of our dealer network and how they help customers do more with less by getting the most from the tech on their machines.

“It’s been wonderful to have Deanna in Australia, hearing from our customers, dealers and team and seeing, firsthand, how innovation is contributing to real gains in production and productivity.”

Next shift in precision agriculture

Looking to the next five to 10 years, Deanna Kovar explained how agriculture would continue to be shaped by opportunities for farmers to create efficiencies.

“We’ll continue to see rapid advancements in precision agriculture, automation and data-driven decision making,” Deanna Kovar confirmed.

“Farmers are increasingly looking for solutions that help them operate more efficiently, reduce input costs and make better decisions in real time.”

Deanna Kovar also pointed out how renewable fuels could also create opportunities for agriculture by expanding the role farmers play in energy production.

“I see a significant opportunity in renewable fuels,” Deanna Kovar confirmed.

“This has the potential to fundamentally change how we farm by creating new sources of demand for crops and expanding the role farmers play in powering everyday life.

“It’s an exciting growth opportunity that not only strengthens rural economies, but also helps deliver cleaner, more affordable energy options for consumers.

“Overall, the future of farming will be defined by how we bring these innovations together to enable farmers to be more productive, more profitable and more sustainable,” Deanna Kovar concluded.
