Bourgault releases next-generation PLDX advanced seeding opener

The just released Bourgault ParaLink dual Xtreme opener is designed for better placement in rough and uneven planting condition

Bourgault Australia has responded to requests for a planting system built for rough and uneven ground by developing a strong dual shank opener

Bourgault Australia has released a highly functional ParaLink Dual Xtreme (PLDX™) opener capable of improving emergence results, especially in rough and uneven planting conditions.

The PLDX openers become part of a highly efficient seeding rig when coupled with a 3335 ParaLink Hoe Drill, and to celebrate the openers release, buyers of a new 3335 ParaLink Hoe Drill can secure the openers at half price.

This special offer is for a limited time, for eligible growers placing an order before 30 June 2026, subject to model availability.

The perfect pairing for the PLDX opener is integration with Bourgault’s 3335 ParaLink Hoe Drill to tackle new ground that previously appeared too rough and uneven

Bourgault Australia has been instrumental in advancing planting for growers expanding their operations to open up new ground that was previously seen as too rough to handle.

This latest PLDX opener forms part of Bourgault’s broader PLX family evolution that has been engineered with a strong build that offers more durability, together with improvements in seed placement accuracy and residue handling.

These have been the key concerns for growers wanting to expand but forced in many cases to operate in increasingly difficult and demanding conditions. The PLDX opener is the obvious solution for anyone in this predicament.

The PLDX opener is already proven across difficult North American terrain, so its arrival here introduces a viable option for growers to open new ground, with the confidence of solid seeding consistency and placement accuracy.

Add consistency and control

At the core of the PLDX design is a focus on depth control and row-to-row consistency for the most optimal chance of crop establishment.

The opener incorporates a reinforced arm and shank structure, along with updated wear components, aimed at maintaining consistent geometry over time and reducing in-season maintenance requirements.

“The objective with PLDX was to refine how consistently we can place seed across the entire toolbar,” Bourgault Australia General Manager Craig Christensen explains.

“As working widths increase, maintaining uniformity from one row to the next becomes more challenging. The PLDX platform is designed to address that, while also improving durability and ease of adjustment.”

The PLDX has an adjustable seed depth at the opener through a movable packer wheel to control both seed flow and fertiliser depth to achieve improved soil coverage

The opener design also incorporates revised geometry intended to improve soil flow and reduce residue build-up, resulting in an overall cleaner result when operating in high stubble loads.

A key function added to the PLDX platform is its 1:1 dual knife configuration, that Bourgault confirms is designed to maintain consistent seed placement through uneven ground.

While an extended-range linkage helps preserve alignment between the opener and packer, supporting more uniform depth control across rises, dips and variable field conditions.

With the advantage of two shanks the PLDX opener is able to help guide the seed and fertiliser to best advantage whether across low high or variant ground

Built for durability and uptime

Durability has been a key design consideration when developing the PLDX opener to work across rough planting conditions. As a result, engineers have incorporated upgrades aimed at extending component life and reducing downtime.

These include strengthened structural components, improved wear surfaces, and updates to key pivot points such as larger 25mm (one-inch) pins on the lower parallel arm.

This strong build is paired with self-lubricating Extended Wear Surface (EWS) bearings able to reduce maintenance and improve longevity in demanding conditions.

Bourgault engineers confirm the opener had been developed to handle a range of environments, including compacted soils and high-residue systems, while maintaining stable operation.

Developed for current planting systems

The PLDX opener becomes part of an advanced seeding system when integrated with Bourgault’s 3335 ParaLink Hoe Drill, particularly when paired with the company’s Quick Depth Adjust (QDA) system.

The advantage of the QDA system is that it enables operators to adjust seeding depth across the bar more quickly and consistently. A consideration Bourgault engineers see as increasingly important as expanding farm operations respond to variable soil moisture and seasonal conditions.

“When you combine consistent opener performance with the ability to quickly and accurately adjust depth, it gives growers more confidence in how they’re placing seed,” Bourgault’s Craig Christensen points out.

“That becomes especially valuable in tight seeding windows or where conditions are changing paddock to paddock.”

Aussie grower relevance

While the PLDX opener saw its initial rollout in North America, its introduction into our local market comes at a time when many growers here are placing increased emphasis on seeding precision and system efficiency.

Larger machinery, wider toolbars and tighter seasonal windows are placing greater demands on seeding equipment, particularly in maintaining consistent depth and seed placement across varying soil types.

Reducing blockages, improving residue flow and maintaining uniformity across the bar are seen as practical advantages in these conditions.
