Abbey Feed Wagons offer the perfect Total Mixed Ration solution

Abbey feed mixer wagons with feed carrying capacities from 10 to 33cub.m are now available

The Abbey VF2000 is available as a single axle or tandem axle model where brakes are standard and also with the option of full suspension

Abbey feed mixer wagons are now readily available in our local market with models ranging from single augers with 10cub.m feed capacities, right up to twin auger models with 33cub.m feed capacities.

With such a wide range of models to choose from, these abbey mixers are already gaining a strong foothold with local producers as they have the added advantage of offering an extended elevator out to 3m, ideal for reaching any feeders.

Abbey feed mixer wagons are distributed here by Farmgard under license from Abbey Machinery, one of Ireland’s largest and most respected manufacturers of agricultural equipment, since 1947.

Abbey machinery certainly has the experience needed for farm equipment manufacturing as they also offer slurry and manure handling equipment, grassland management equipment as well as their range of animal feed equipment.

There is a great deal of science behind the design of these Abbey feed mixer wagons as they offer a Total Mixed Ration (TMR) that offers more benefits to improve animal bulk than can be achieved by pasture fed animals.

TMR has been proven as offering producers control with the ability to produce power food for their livestock in Dairy, Beef or Sheep.

Farmgard explains how to build pure TMR feed for your animal, it begins with product commodities of dry and wet ingredients of at least 25% of each but no more than 75% of any one commodity.

The next step is to combine what your nutritionist advises for the ration with an Abbey feed mixer wagon to achieve exceptional results in both milk production and or beef/sheep weight gain.

This allows producers to better manage and work towards a bottom-line farm income much higher than pasture fed animals can produce where nitrogen control can be an issue along with rumen stimulation for the animal wellbeing and performance to increase milk production and beef weight gain.

Drought of course is always the farmers enemy when it comes to feeding livestock, the use of the feed mixer wagon allows the farmer to have more control in feeding and being able to maintain consistent quality of the end product.

On average a cow will eat some 250 to 300 minutes a day, requiring around 30 minutes to digest each kg of feed intake across perhaps 8 to 10 feeds a day.

During this time, consuming anywhere from 15 to 50kg of feed daily with a consistent homogenous ration mix there will tend be less rejection of the feed again this is where the Abbey mixer pays for itself.

So, you have ration……now it’s all in the mix!

Correct preparation of the ration, to fuel the rumen for optimum digestion brings enormous benefits in terms of dry matter intake, rumen health and overall performances.

To enable a healthy rumen to work effectively requires an adequately mixed homogenous ration of protein, energy, fibre, minerals and vitamins.

The Abbey feed mixer wagon has a uniquely designed auger with a flat profile and inflected top knife, combined with the tub design and overall construction methods to gently chop, mix and feed out in a way that optimises an ideal ration for the animal.
