AGCO IDEAL combine harvester wins design award

AGCO’s IDEAL combine harvester has won a Platinum award for its Fendt division at this year’s prestigious A’ Design international competition

A Fendt badged IDEAL harvester has taken out the Platinum A’ Design Award in Como, Italy. The impressive design of the IDEAL ahrvester sold here under the Massey Ferguson badge, impressed the international panel of experts in the category of “Agriculture, Horticulture and Fisheries.”

The IDEAL harvester beat out candidates from 106 countries to win the coveted design award.

When Fendt’s parent company, AGCO, came to build the IDEAL, the challenge was to work with a global, intercontinental team to meet the needs of different customers and harvesting conditions worldwide.

The resultant, largest production combine harvester was designed entirely from scratch.

The threshing mechanism and cleaning system came from the Danish firm Randers, the TrackRide from Jackson, USA, and all the electronics were developed in Marktoberdorf, Bavaria.

The IDEAL has undergone extensive testing in different world regions and is groundbreaking in terms of innovation, quality, cost-effectiveness and automation.

The A’ Design Award is the world’s biggest international design competition with a number of categories, including architectural, industrial and vehicle design.

The judging panel of experts is made up of press agents, designers, scientists and experienced entrepreneurs, and awards Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Iron prizes across the various disciplines every year.

“We are delighted to receive the Platinum A’ Design Award for the IDEAL large combine harvester. This prize confirms what we already knew – that this machine design has an important role to play in the development of new machines,” said Roland Schmidt, vice president of marketing at Fendt.

There are three IDEAL models: the 335kW (451hp) IDEAL 7, 400kW (538hp) IDEAL 8 and 482kW (647hp) IDEAL 9 with a grain tank capacity up to 17,100 litres

“The IDEAL is a unique combination of innovation in technology and design, which has gone down very well with our customers. With the colour Graphite as a design feature, the IDEAL has a particularly high recognition value within the industry.”

Sold in Australia under the Massey Ferguson badge, the IDEAL combine harvester is embarking on its very first Australian grain harvest this season.
