Henty Agri Innovators Awards are here to champion ag-tech creators

All budding inventors and backyard engineers have a chance for glory at the 2023 Henty Machinery Field days against upcoming innovative tech solutions

Justin Dunn of Temora NSW was a previous winner of the Agri-Innovators Award at Henty and with the assistance of Farmers2Founders the award is being reinvigorated for the 2023 event scheduled to run from Tuesday to Thursday 19 to 21 September

Be part of the 60th anniversary Henty Machinery Field Days, scheduled for Tuesday to Thursday 19 to 21 September 2023. The gates open to the public daily from 8.00am to 5pm, and tickets will be sold online and at the gate.

Last year the event drew a record crowd of over 70,000 across the three days and showcased over $120 million worth of farm equipment, machinery and technology from 750 exhibitors on the 105ha site.

For the past six decades, innovation has been at the heart of the Henty Machinery Field Days, and in 2023 Henty has partnered with Farmers2Founders to shine a spotlight on upcoming tech solutions.

Producers looking to adopt trailblazing technology on farm and benefit from improved sustainability, reduced costs and empower them with better decision-making capabilities can visit the TEKFARM Agritech Innovation Hub at the Henty MFD in 2023.

Powered by Farmers2Founders, the hub will showcase the best and upcoming innovative tech solutions available to producers across all agricultural sectors, empowering them with cutting-edge tools and technologies to revolutionise their farming practices and enhance productivity.

In recognition of NSW’s prominent role in AgTech, the 2023 Henty Machinery Field Days is marking the resurgence of its Agri-Innovators Award in a big way.

This year the award program will encompass a wider range of agricultural sectors, showcasing the accomplishments of emerging innovators and introducing a significant accolade to the Female Innovator of the Year.

This expansion aims to celebrate and champion the ground-breaking advancements in agriculture within the state.

The award categories on offer include:

  • Agritech Innovation of the Year
  • Emerging AgTech Innovation
  • Innovative Producer Award
  • Female Innovator of the Year
Henty Machinery Field Days were held on private properties in the Henty area until 1976 when it found a permanent site on a former travelling stock reserve on the Cookardinia Road – 8km east of the Henty town centre

Henty Machinery Field Days chief executive officer Belinda Anderson welcomed the partnership with Farmers2Founders to showcase innovative solutions with many ready for adoption on-farm.

Belinda Anderson went on to explain, “The Land and NSW Farmer Association Farm Inventor of the Year competition had been a perennial favourite at the field days for 51 years until it was replaced by the Agri-Innovators Award in 2015.

“The awards have already provided the launching pad for scores of backyard tinkerers, budding entrepreneurs and enterprising visionaries, highlighting everything from the latest technical and commercial developments through to product releases.

“With new award categories being added for 2023 it will complement the existing highly coveted HMFD Machine of the Year Award and Best Australian Designed and Manufactured Machine,” Belinda Anderson concluded.

A vintage display by the Henty and District Antique Farm Machinery Club will commemorate the change in technology over the past six decades as shown here with descendants of Hugh Lennon, Geoff Powell, his mother Fay and father John Powell in front of a rare Lennon plough from the 1880s with Ned Kelly making his armour from mouldboards taken off Lennon ploughs

Farmers2Founders Head of Operations and Partnerships Claire Pink said the TEKFARM Agritech Innovation Awards were open to tertiary and university students, farmers, backyard tinkerers and innovators from any state.

“Entries can be for any agribusiness invention, ranging from a mobile phone app or computer software program to the largest tillage machinery ever released,’’ Claire Pink added.

Entries close on 21 August 2023, with entries to be judged prior to the field days and the winners to be announced at the Henty Machinery Field Days at 10.30am at The Stump on Thursday 21 September 2023.
