The locally manufactured and designed Legacy front released for the first time this harvest by Midwest Fabrication has been recognised at Henty
Midwest Fabrication, a pioneer in agricultural machinery innovation, was honoured with the Highly Commended award at the Henty Machinery Field Days’ Machine of the Year competition for its ground-breaking 18.3m (60-ft) Legacy Front designed for John Deeres X9 combines.
Travelling over 1,200 kilometres to showcase the world’s widest draper front, Midwest once again solidified its reputation for producing the largest, most efficient headers available in Australia.
The Legacy front sets the standard for harvesting efficiency, this innovative design not only increases harvesting capacity but also minimises downtime, embodying the company’s dedication to improving the productivity of growers.

Michael Knight, Sales and Business Development Manager at Midwest Fabrication emphasised the significance of the recognition, confirming, “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team. For over 26 years, we have been at the forefront of harvest-front innovation, and our Legacy model exemplifies that commitment to efficiency and reliability.
“Receiving this acknowledgment from Henty reinforces our drive to deliver industry-leading solutions to Australian farmers.”
Midwest’s Legacy has undergone rigorous testing, including the harvest of over 2,630 hectares of wheat in Barmedman NSW with outstanding results. Growers have consistently praised the platform’s ability to cover more ground in less time, increasing overall farm efficiency.
“Farmers are always pushing the limits for greater efficiency,” Michael Knight added. “With the Midwest Legacy, farmers are not only seeing lower operating costs but also fewer mechanical issues, thanks to its simple, durable design, an essential factor when time is critical during harvest,” Michael Knight concluded.
As Midwest continues to expand its footprint into southern New South Wales and Victoria, the company remains dedicated to supporting its growing customer base.
Meanwhile, Michael Knight sees events like Henty as pivotal in connecting with both current and prospective clients, discussing their specific needs, and offering expert advice on parts and servicing.
In addition to its success in the Australian market, Midwest is exploring international opportunities in Canada and the northern USA, aiming to bring its world-class header fronts to an even broader audience.
A future-ready commitment to agriculture
The Legacy’s cutting-edge design is just the beginning for Midwest Fabrication. With a full-time engineer dedicated to developing the next generation of fronts, the company is well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of modern agriculture.
Despite the challenges of drought, fire, and even a global pandemic, Midwest Fabrication has never faltered. This recognition at Henty Machinery Field Days is a celebration of their resilience and commitment to delivering top-quality, Australian-made machinery for farming.
