It’s the collector item everybody will want in 50 years, the Munro MK_1, this battery-powered four-wheel drive workhorse seamlessly integrates the rugged reliability of a full-time 4×4 mechanical drivetrain with an advanced electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions.

The Munro MK_1 comes out of Glasgow in Scotland, built by Munro Vehicles (Munro), a manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s and Scotland’s only volume production vehicle company.

The initial MK_1 is a five-seater designed for off-road performance and with its utilitarian looks, it seems ideally suited for farm work. The body style is available as a Utility or completely covered hard top.

There are three power variants to be had, the entry-level MK_1 Utility is loaded with a 61.2kWh battery paired with a 220kW/295bhp electric motor. Expect a travel range of 225km or 12 hours running time.

At the mid-level is the MK_1 Range version that will get you 300km or 16 hours of running time. This time with an 82.4kWh battery working a 220kW/295bhp electric motor. Top speed is set at 100kph.

While at the top of the range, the MK_1 Performance model offers just that with a 130kph top speed reached at 4.9 seconds and maxes out with a 280kW/375bhp electric motor.

The Munro MK_1 Utility is ideal for transporting farm equipment and livestock and depending on the model offers peak power outputs of 220kW/295bhp and 280kW/375bhp battery and can accelerate to 100kph in just 4.9 seconds

Central to the Munro MK_1’s capabilities is its adeptness in working through heavy weather conditions and the way it handles rough terrain with a non-stop performance.

The spacious rear bed accommodates a 1050kg payload, while there is a 2,500kg tow capacity on the MK_1 Utility and Range models, a Jump up to the MK_1 Performance gains a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg.

Equipped with an 82.4kWh battery, the Munro MK_1 can rapidly recharge from 15 to 80% battery capacity in just 36 minutes using a 100kW DC charger. A fully charged battery provides a range exceeding 300km, enabling up to 16 hours of off-road operation on a single charge.

The initial two Munro MK_1 customer vehicles hand-assembled at the brand’s East Kilbride headquarters in Scotland, are Founder Editions. The first vehicle, a black Truck, is being built to Munro’s Range specification, equipped with 220kW/295bhp of power and 600Nm of torque.

The Truck offers an estimated 300km range and has a braked towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes.

The second vehicle is a gloss-white Utility, again built in the ultimate Performance guise. It runs off a 280kW/375bhp battery, has 700Nm of torque, a 3.5-tonne towing capacity and an estimated range of 300km.

Designed, engineered, and manufactured in Great Britain, the Munro MK_1 holds historical significance as the first light vehicle to enter production in Scotland in over four decades.

There has been an enthusiastic response from everyone who has test driven the MK_1 Truck, with similar excitement surrounding the MK_1 Utility. And already with over 250 pre-orders to fill, it reaffirms the market demand for Munro MK_1 vehicles.

Munro is poised to capitalise on substantial global interest in the MK_1 as the company approaches the completion of its initial two production models, with the potential to revolutionise farm vehicles by introducing electric battery-powered workhorses.

Munro’s MK 1 is made for farms and rough terrain conquering with ground clearance at 480mm and the inference that the vehicle can wade up to 800mm deep in water

About Munro MK_1 vehicles

Munro Vehicles was founded in 2019 by Russell Peterson and Ross Anderson to manufacture the Munro® MK_1, described as the world’s most capable all-electric 4×4, for commercial and private customers. Born off-road, the Munro is a unique 4×4 with uncompromising capability in the most challenging environments with the lowest environmental impact.

Scotland’s only production car company, Munro Vehicles, will build 50 vehicles in 2023 before transitioning to a new purpose-built site near Glasgow in 2024. With the creation of 300 jobs, production will be ramped up to 250 vehicles per year with a strategic roadmap in place to deliver 2,500 units annually by 2027.

The Munro is cleverly engineered to be simple and low-cost to maintain, with the extensive use of existing components. This approach ensures a superior total cost of ownership, with maximum uptime from a fully electric 4×4 that minimises its footprint no matter where it goes.
