It’s the last chance to own a piece of motoring wagon history as the final orders for Nissan V8 engine models end in August

It’s the final opportunity to own a piece of Patrol history, with production of the V8-powered Y62 Patrol set to conclude in August 2026, while local production of the Patrol Warrior by Premcar will wrap up shortly after.
The last Patrol to be powered by Nissan’s 5.6-litre petrol V8 is the outgoing Y62 model, soon to have its slot taken over by the Y63 Patrol sporting a 3.5-litre V6 Twin Turbo powertrain. Set to arrive later this year.
The final Y62 run out marks the closing chapter on more than a decade of V8 power in one of the most enduring full-size off-road SUV’s.

From when it first arrived here in 1961 as the second-generation G60 Datsun Patrol, the Nissan Patrol went on to become one of the longest-running continuous nameplates in the automotive industry.
Across five generations, more than 258,000 Patrols have been delivered to local customers, building one of the most loyal enthusiast followings of any 4WD nameplate.
The Patrol Y62 Patrol with its 5.6-litre V8 delivering 298kW and 560Nm has played a defining role in that legacy and now offer the last chance to have a V8 wagon in the shed, and likely a highly sought-after collector’s item once remaining stock is gone.

Legacy built on our terrain
The Patrol’s reputation has been reinforced through generations of motorsport success, with the Patrol winning a record 15 consecutive Australian Off-Road Championship titles between 1983 and 1998 — the majority of them under the guidance of Griffith rice farmer ‘Legend’ Les Siviour — along with four outright victories in the Australasian Safari in 1992, 1993, 1995 and 2003.
The Y62, introduced locally in 2013, took the Patrol into a more upmarket era of refinement and on-road capability with its 5.6-litre V8 engine, fully independent suspension with Hydraulic Body Motion Control, while preserving the off-road credibility that has defined Patrol since 1951.

Patrol Warrior by Premcar — the final V8 Warrior
The Y62 run-out also marks the final opportunity to secure the locally-engineered flagship of V8 Patrol line-up – the Warrior by Premcar.
Developed in collaboration with Melbourne-based Premcar at its dedicated Warrior production facility, Patrol Warrior takes the Y62’s V8 platform and adds purposeful upgrades, including suspension tuning, increased ground clearance, all-terrain tyres on bespoke wheels and exterior styling enhancements.
Notably, a bi-modal side-exit exhaust system gives the Patrol Warrior the perfect soundtrack — quiet and refined while cruising, yet unleashing a deep, unmistakable V8 note under hard acceleration.
Each Warrior is hand-finished through a secondary-stage manufacturing process and carries Nissan’s full factory warranty.

Buyers interested in securing a new Y62 Patrol or Patrol Warrior are encouraged to call into their local Nissan dealership. Stock is finite, with availability varying by grade and dealer.
The current Y62 Patrol range is available at Nissan dealers nationally, backed by Nissan’s comprehensive up to 10-year/300,000km, Nissan MORE warranty and up to 10 years/300,000km of Roadside Assistance when serviced at authorised Nissan dealers, with Nissan Flat Price Service on the first five scheduled services.
The all-new Nissan Y63 Patrol fitted with a 3.5-litre V6 Twin Turbo powertrain for the first time will be available to order later this year.

Six decades of Patrol heritage in pictures
The Nissan Patrol, as we know it today, actually first arrived in 1961 as the second-generation G60 Datsun Patrol. There have been more than 258,000 Patrols sold locally, with one of the most loyal enthusiast followings of any 4WD nameplate in the country.
This heritage pictorial brings together all the vehicles from the Patrol’s local history.

G60 Datsun Patrol (1961–1980) — The nameplate’s beginning arrived in 1961. In September 1962, just one year later, a G60 became the first motor vehicle to cross the Simpson Desert when the Sprigg family charting what is now the French Line.

160-Series MQ Patrol (1980–1987) — The Patrol’s evolution into a more recreational 4WD, helped establish it as a practical family and touring wagon while broadening customer appeal through the introduction of the first Patrol automatic transmission and, from 1984 as a farm work carrier, with the first turbo-diesel option.

Y60 GQ Patrol (1987–1997) — A genuine benchmark-setter. The GQ introduced all-coil-spring suspension to the segment, claiming the first of the Patrol’s four 4×4 Australia titles as the 4×4 Of the Year in 1987.

Y61 GU Patrol (1997–2016) — The most popular Patrol ever sold in Australia. Between 1998 and 2000, Nissan delivered more than 10,000 GU Patrols each year to local buyers, and briefly became the world’s largest market for the model.

Y62 Patrol and Y62 Patrol Warrior (2013–2026) — The pinnacle of the V8 era. The Y62 took the Patrol into a chapter of refinement and on-road capability, while the Australian-engineered Patrol Warrior by Premcar dialled up its off-road credentials for local conditions. Together, they represent the closing chapter on more than a decade of Patrol V8 power.

The next chapter — the 3.5-litre V6 Y63 Patrol — will be available to order later this year, carrying the legacy forward with a powerful twin-turbo powertrain and nine-speed automatic transmission. With many Nissan enthusiasts also plugging for a chance to buy the Nissan Dune Patrol, following a concept vehicle being revealed here.
