Ben Wye Engineering & Design is a 100% Australian owned and operated company based in Uraidla in the agricultural region of the Adelaide Hills.

Specialising in tractor drawn grass cutting equipment, Ben Wye Engineering has gained a reputation for quality in design, engineering and workmanship.

The company’s core product is its range of top-quality Piranha slashers, available in three-point-linkage or trailed models with working widths ranging from 1m up to 5.5m.

Featuring single, twin, triple or quad rotor set ups, Piranha slashers are available in a wide range of configurations.

Single rotor linkage models can be centre mounted behind the tractor or offset to the right for operators that regularly need to mow fence lines or around other obstacles. Three smaller models with cutting widths from 1.1 to 1.3m suit tractors with 12-25kW (16-35hp), while four larger machines suit a tractor power range of 25-74kW (35-100hp) and have widths from 1.3 to 2.2m.

A further option on single rotors is provision of either adjustable sides to change cutting heights, fixed sides for a single 40mm height, or side delivery so cut material can be ejected to the right or the slasher to be collected and used for mulch.

In the twin-rotor range, models can be linkage or towed and are offered in working widths of 1.85 to 3.2m. Recommended tractor power ranges from 25-110kW (35-150hp) depending on whether you opt for a heavy duty, drop-centre or pasture topping model.

On twin rotor models cut material can be delivered to the sides to throw mulch under vines or left in the middle of the row courtesy of both rotors spinning into the centre.

Twin rotor machines have the advantage over single rotors of increasing cutting width without also overly increasing deck depth. This means the weight of the machine is kept close to the rear wheels of the tractor for safer operation on steep terrain.

Triple rotor machines offer rigid or winged mower decks in cutting widths from 3.2 to 5.5m. Rigid machines are good for flat ground while winged models are able to follow ground contours.

Tractor power required is 37-110kW (50-150hp) and once again, triple rotors offer the ability to extend cutting width without overly increasing machine depth.

Flex wing models also fold to 90 degrees for transport with folded widths no wider than 2.4m.

All Piranha slashers feature a tough powder coated finish, zinc-plated 10mm safety chain to minimise projectile dangers and forged, quenched and tempered cutting blades. In addition, all slashers enjoy a full two-year warranty.

Ben Wye also manufactures a range of orchard bin loaders, tractor-mounted forklifts, tree planters and root pruners.
