The Committee of the Wandin-Silvan Field Days has announced their 2020 event will not proceed due to the impact of COVID-19 and as a consequence subsequent crowd restrictions.
The 2020 Wandin-Silvan Field Days was due to be held on 16 and 17 October.
But with metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire locked down with stage 3 restrictions for 6 weeks, commencing 11.59pm on Wednesday 8 July 2020, restricted movements and health risks make it untenable to hold this and any other outdoor event in Victoria.
The Wandin-Silvan FD committee advised it had taken into careful consideration the health risks that have surfaced with the continued presence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The committee advised the health and well-being of all patrons, exhibitors and staff was the major priority, so the event was cancelled.
President, William Anker emphasised “This has been a very difficult decision for our Committee, and especially on the back of one of our most successful events last year during which we celebrated our 50th Anniversary.
“The Wandin-Silvan Field Days are considered as the premier event of the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges region of Victoria, with a significant value to the local economy.
“We fully realise the impact and disappointment for all of our stakeholders, including members, exhibitors, and the numerous local community groups involved, and of course our visitors.
“We thank everyone for their support and endorsement of our event over the course of time and we now look forward to working together to ensure a bigger and better experience at the 2021 event.
The next Wandin-Silvan Field Days will be held on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 October 2021.
