Yanmar has released the SM475 tractor into several world markets and many local dealers would welcome the chance to offer the SM model range here
The SM475 tractor from Yanmar fits the bill for a small utility tractor role on a small to medium farm operation and for just about every hobby farmer it is a perfect selection.
However, since 2018 when the last new Yanmar was sold here by the PFG Group, there simply hasn’t been another distributor that can strike a deal with Yanmar to offer their models here under their official badge.
Considering many top tractor manufacturers use Yanmar engines and components in their own compact tractor model ranges.
And that is a pity as the company has embarked on updates that match any current badge and is also working on releasing a fully electric tractor running off the latest Eleo off-highway battery pack technology.
As it stands, SM475 is the most powerful tractor available outside their manufacturing base in Japan and joins the recently released SM240 and SM240H. In addition, Yanmar has also unveiled its first-ever limited-edition tractor, the SA223 Kuro Edition.
A further benefit that Yanmar has always offered while being the second fiddle tractor line from Japan when compared to Kubota, a Yanmar is seen as a traditional workhorse that will run all day and can be purchased for far less than its orange counterpart.
Yanmar SM475 small to medium specialist
With an engine output of 54kW (74hp) the SM475 is Yanmar’s most powerful tractor offered in its export line-up.
With the benefit of design updates, this model offers more advanced technology and higher quality design that has buyers many world markets well satisfied with the performance level and in relative comfort.
The SM475 also get an operator tick with its clutch-less power shuttle transmission that offers a more effortless workload when combined with adjustable power steering tilt for implements and an optional joystick-controlled loader without leaving the seat.
The cabin is described as deluxe and offers dual-entry, with efficient climate control inside the ergonomic operator station with a digital command hub, and an immersive audio system.
The SM475 is ideal for specialised precision tasks like trenching, it ensures greater impact with fewer passes.
and its 90-litre fuel tank means it can tackle medium to heavy-duty tasks for extended durations.
The hydraulics offer 39-litres/min for implements while a category II 3-point hitch can handle loads up to 2320kg. Rear pto-speed is 540rpm.
Armed with a RL505 front-end loader lift height to the pivot pin is 3.4m with a maximum height lift capacity of 1.5 tonnes.

Expanding the SM range
Yanmar has also released the SM240 and the SM240H with a clutchless hydrostatic transmission to cater for small land holdings up to 18ha (45-ac).
Both the SM240 and SM240H offer close to a tonne lift capacity in a joystick-operated front-end loader and have a foldable rollover protection kit.
While there is also an optional Yanmar backhoe to provide everything required for working around the land holding.
Kuro limited edition SA223
For the first time in the Yanmar, line-up is a limited release, the Kuro SA223 tractor with engine power of 16kW (21.5hp).
The name Kuro stands for “black” in Japanese, to emphasise the SA223 Kuro trim that offers exceptional operator comfort with a suspension seat and a refined aesthetic of tasteful black accents.
The hydrostatic transmission offers dual-range speeds, standard differential lock, and three-point hitch position control.
The SA223 Kuro Edition is powered by Yanmar’s legendary 3-cylinder, liquid-cooled diesel engine paired with hydrostatic transmission.
This compact limited edition release is part of the three-model SA Series that is built for front-end loader and backhoe work and can run all 3-point hitch implements.
